AI Avatars and Customer Experience: When Students Imagine Tomorrow's Uses
Co-founder & CMO, VRAI Learning
Looking back on a collaboration between VRAI Learning and IÉSEG School of Management
Artificial intelligence and conversational avatars are already transforming training and customer experience.
But what will their real-world uses actually look like tomorrow?
To answer this question, VRAI Learning had the pleasure of collaborating with IÉSEG School of Management (Lille campus) during several immersive workshops bringing together students, AI avatars, data, and storytelling.
Objective: imagine concrete projects integrating avatars and AI, with deep reflection on customer experience, value in use, and the brand-user relationship.
Teaching AI differently: an immersive pedagogical approach
These workshops were designed as genuine innovation laboratories. No limits were imposed on students — neither technological nor creative — with some projects projecting themselves all the way to 2040.
At the heart of the approach:
conversational artificial intelligence,
embodied avatars,
data as a lever for personalized experience,
- and storytelling as the thread running through the customer relationship.
At VRAI Learning, we defend a clear vision:
"An AI avatar is only relevant if it serves a useful, human, and engaging experience."
Avatars and artificial intelligence: concrete, use-case-oriented ideas
What particularly struck us was the maturity of the thinking proposed. Students were able to move beyond the technological "wow" effect to imagine realistic use cases, applicable by brands, while remaining aligned with user expectations. Result: credible, responsible concepts — often immediately actionable.

A school-business collaboration oriented toward the future!
This collaboration with IÉSEG School of Management shows how much schools and businesses have to gain by working together on AI, avatars, and customer experience. A huge thank you to Élodie Gentina for her trust and commitment to this innovative pedagogical initiative — and bravo and thank you to the students who participated in these workshops.
What professionals can take away from these projects
This work illustrates several key lessons for companies:
- AI avatars are above all relational tools
- Personalization and data are at the heart of customer experience
- Storytelling remains essential, even — and especially — with AI
- Concrete use cases take precedence over pure technology
At VRAI Learning, we are convinced that these student projects herald uses that will emerge well before 2040 — some are already in active development.
AI avatars, training, and customer experience: what next?
Seeing a generation emerge that is expert in technologies, aware of ethical challenges, and deeply user-oriented, is extremely inspiring. The future of conversational avatars and AI applied to customer experience will be human, embodied, and useful — and these students are already sketching its contours.
The story is only just beginning!
How do AI avatars concretely transform customer experience in 2026?
In 2026, conversational AI avatars are no longer limited to answering simple questions: they embody a brand presence available 24/7, capable of adapting in real time to each customer's profile, preferences, and history. Concretely, an AI avatar can welcome a visitor to an e-commerce site, suggest products based on their tastes, handle a complaint, or accompany a complex purchase — all while maintaining a tone consistent with the brand identity. In a physical point of sale, it can play the role of a product expert available at any hour, without queuing. In hospitality, it personalizes the stay from the moment of booking. The key difference from previous solutions lies in the relational dimension: the AI avatar creates an interaction perceived as human, memorable, and engaging, which reinforces loyalty and customer satisfaction.
Which sectors benefit most from AI avatars for customer experience?
Sectors with high volumes of customer interactions and a need for personalization are the first beneficiaries. Retail and e-commerce gain in conversion thanks to virtual advisors available around the clock. Hospitality and tourism use AI avatars to enrich the welcome, inform about destinations, and retain travelers in their native language — among 62 available languages. Food service and mass retail deploy virtual sommeliers or nutritional guides to showcase their ranges. Sport and wellness benefit from personalized coaches accessible at any time. Finally, professional training leverages AI avatars to simulate real client situations, train teams under authentic conditions, and reduce pedagogical costs. Large groups as well as SMEs find in these solutions immediate scalability: a single avatar can handle thousands of simultaneous interactions without loss of quality.
FAQ — AI avatars and customer experience
What is the difference between an AI avatar and a chatbot for customer experience?
A traditional chatbot responds according to pre-established scenarios: it follows a decision tree and quickly hits a wall when faced with unexpected questions. A conversational AI avatar, like those developed by VRAI Learning, is built on generative language models capable of understanding context, reformulating, memorizing previous exchanges, and adapting its tone to the interlocutor. Visually, the AI avatar embodies a character consistent with the brand — appearance, voice, gestures — which creates an emotional bond absent from text interfaces. In customer experience terms, this difference is decisive: the AI avatar reduces frustration, increases first-contact resolution rates, and generates a sense of premium service, whereas a chatbot is often perceived as an obstacle before reaching a human agent.
What is the measurable ROI of an AI avatar in-store or online?
Key indicators vary by context, but several metrics are systematically measured. In e-commerce, brands report a conversion rate increase of 15 to 30% on product pages integrating an avatar advisor, as well as a reduction in cart abandonment rates. In physical points of sale, average perceived wait time decreases and average basket size increases thanks to personalized recommendations. On the cost side, an AI avatar handles interaction volumes without additional recruitment, which significantly reduces the cost per contact. For team training, VRAI Learning measures a reduction in skill development time of 30 to 40% versus traditional methods. Overall ROI depends on interaction volume and sector, but becomes positive within the first months of deployment for high-traffic businesses.
How long does it take to deploy a personalized AI avatar for a brand?
The timeline depends on the level of personalization desired. For a conversational avatar built on an existing knowledge base (product catalogue, FAQ, sales scripts), VRAI Learning can deploy a first operational version within four to six weeks. Creating a fully custom avatar — with character design, training on the brand's proprietary data, and multi-channel integration (website, app, interactive kiosk) — generally requires two to four months. The distinctive aspect of VRAI Learning's approach is multi-device compatibility from the outset: the same avatar can be deployed on screen, tablet, kiosk, or VR headset without redevelopment. Rapid iterations are possible thanks to user feedback collected from the moment of go-live, allowing continuous refinement of avatar behavior.
